GIVE THE GIFT OF A HEALTHIER HOME

Get Clean Home Care products make a great healthy gift.
Natural, toxin free, concentrated, multi-tasked products that save and protect your health, the health of the planet, save you $$$ and reduce packaging in the recycle bins.

As an article in the Columbus Dispatch, Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011 boasted...Green Cleaners Reduce Packaging. “SC Johnson introduced a version of its popular Windex window cleaner this year that’s sold in a snip-n-pour pouch so the customer can refill old bottles with concentrated Windex formula diluted with water from the tap. Super concentrated Tide Pods may be mixed with water. WalMart and other retailers are featuring such products to maximize shelf space, reduce their environmental footprint and showcase their eco-stewardship. For manufacturers, concentrated cleaners mean less water, less weight, and lower shipping costs.”
Windex in a “snip-n-pour” pouch is simply a form of even more concentrated toxins (ammonia among them) for one to dilute and use in their home.
And they are calling this marketing approach “Green”???!!!

THEY ARE STILL FULL OF HARMFUL CHEMICALS!!!

Dr. Shaklee created concentrated Basic H in 1960. He used to say, “there is no need to ship the water to you”. One drop of Basic H² in a 16 oz. spray bottle makes Windex strength window/mirror cleaner. NOW, how much more concentrated can one get...ONE DROP!? And here is the really neat thing.
We have Non-Toxic, Organic, Concentrated Formulas.

16 oz bottle of
Shaklee Window Cleaner costs   $.01
Shaklee General Cleaner costs    $.03
Shaklee Degreaser/Heavy Duty   $.17

Dr. Shaklee used to say “Other companies can try to copy us,
but they can’t catch us.”

Shaklee is 56 years ahead of these guys!

Do You Hold Your Breath When You Clean?

I was reminded again how chemicals can make us sick!

As I left a local business today I walked through an entry way that was fogged with a window cleaner.  The gal was washing windows.  As I hurried out the door I commented "man does that stink". I tried to hold my breath as I got out of there as fast as I could.  With just those few seconds I could feel a difference in my head.

It reminded me of a presentation that I did last night on how changing brands can change your life.

I held up a card and read some ingredients that are in everyday cleaners.
Here are four chemicals and some of the products they are in.
(If you watched "The Toxic Brew" from my last post some will look & sound familiar.)

BUTYL CELLOSVE:
*  Linked to reproductive harm
*  Can cause irritation & tissue damage from inhalation
*  Exposure for 15 mins. while cleaning the shower, could inhale 3 X the acute exposure limit
Exposure through the skin

SOME PRODUCTS:
Windex, 409 & 409 Wipes, Simple Green-All Purpose Cleaner, Pledge- Electronics, Fantastik Antibacterial, Spot Shot Carpet Stain Remover, plus many more.

I ask you how can you spray a window cleaner on a window & not inhale it???
Think about all the people you know who are having trouble getting pregnant.  Could the chemicals in our cleaners play a part in that too?

HYDROCHLORIC ACID:
*  Severe damage to skin & eyes
*  Throat irritation even when exposed briefly & at low levels
*  Can be fatal if swallowed
*  Linked to Reactive Airways Dysfunction Syndrome (Asthma)
DO NOT INHALE

SOME PRODUCTS:
Febreze, Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner, SHOUT Advanced, Lime-A-Way, plus many others.

A Vet home from Iraq said they used Febreze all over.  At times they couldn't wash clothes for weeks & just used Febreze for the smell.  He said I wonder if that is why 95% of the Vets have asthma coming home?

Have you noticed how many products now have Febreze added to it?  Even some sweeper bags now contain Febreze!

Many of these products are not designed for us to breath so why do we have them in our homes!?!?

SODIUM HYDROXIDE:
*  Causes 75% of all caustic injury to the esophagus of kids under 5 years old.
*  Can cause burns in tissues-eyes, skin, mouth, & throat
*  Can cause chronic skin irritation
*  Can cause irritation to the respiratory track
*  Can cause liver & kidney damage

SOME PRODUCTS:
Tide, Clorox, Lysol, Soft Scrub, Cascade, Palmolive, Woolite, Comet Bleach, Easy-Off, Drano, 409, plus many more.

This is a picture of a baby who was snuggled against someone who had used some of these chemicals in their laundry.  The baby cried for over an hour while the parents were gone.  The babysitter couldn't understand why he was crying.  When the parents got home he was broken out in a rash, his eyes were swollen & smelled like very strong laundry products.  They immediately gave him a bath & the baby started to settle down.  The baby's parents use only chemical free products in their home.

After looking at this picture doesn't it make sense to check out your laundry proucts.  Are they as safe as they could be?

LYE-POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE
*  Harmful if swallowed or inhaled
*  Can cause severe eye & skin burns
*  Can cause severe respiratory & digestive burns
*  Repeated skin contact may cause Dermatitis (Eczema)

SOME PRODUCTS:
Lysol, Cascade, Murphy Oil Soap, Pantene Style Hairspray, Olay Active Hydrating Cream, plus many more.

After seeing the side effects in many of these cleaning products no wonder we are having so many health issues!

Let's take a look at what I found out as I researched  cleaners.

The Toxic Brew of Chemicals in Household Cleaners

Cleaning house is not a little matter and can have far-reaching health effects. It’s all in what is used. Toxins in our homes – mainly the chemicals in our cleaning products – are being linked more and more often with many of the diseases that are rapidly taking control of our lives. Have you noticed the rise in numbers of children diagnosed with asthma and cancer?
Following is a video from the Canadian Broadcast show “MarketPlace” called “The Toxic Brew”. What they cover about the chemicals in household cleaners will really open your eyes (if you’re not informed already). WE need to become aware and responsible and cannot trust that because something is on TV or on the shelf at the local grocery store that it’s safe for our families. Children especially are at risk because their little systems (immune, reproductive) and brains are not fully developed. So many homes today are built tight – meaning that unless you open your windows, there is no (or very little) ventilation. You are trapped with the chemicals in your cleaners.
Take a look at this clip & see if any of your favorites are included.

What will you do with the information you just saw?
Will you ignore it or make a change?

Wow! Do you really know what is in those chemicals you clean with?

I learned that my symptoms were caused by sensitivity to all kinds of chemicals that are found in everyday household products and the world around us.  I assumed that I was having some abnormal reaction to substances that were harmless to others.  I learned this wasn’t necessarily the case.

So, go to your cupboard right now.  Pick a cleaner, any cleaner.  Does it contain sodium hydroxide, phenol, ammonia or formaldehyde?  These-and more-may be toxic.   Toxic as in dangerous, as in hurtful, as in not very clean at all.  Home is NO place for stuff like that!  So let's start by getting rid of those troublemakers.

When I say changing brands can change your life what comes to your mind?

It may take on different meanings as you go through different stages of life.

I want to share with you a variety of topics on this blog.  I will share many areas of changing brands.  We will start with the chemicals that are found in common cleaning & everyday products that we use in our homes.

For me, learning about these toxic chemicals was a discovery that radically changed the way I live.  Like most people, I always assumed that if a product was on the market, it must be safe.  I’ve now learned, through painful experience, that nothing could be farther from the truth.  Actually, consumer products that we all use every day are filled with toxic chemicals, many of which would require special handling if used in a chemical laboratory or in the workplace.  In fact, in industry, workers are required to wear special gloves, goggles, and sometimes a respirator when using some of the exact same products found in just about every home.  We use these same chemicals at home with no protection at all and with no ventilation!

My Story
Do you know that the cleaners you use to clean your home are safe & not making you or others sick?

In 1996 I came in contact with some building chemicals that left me very chemical sensitive.
I didn’t know it at the time and didn’t understand why sometimes I got very sick for no reason so I thought.  When I was around other people using other brands of cleaning products or most types of products with a smell I got sick.

I didn't dare go down the cleaning isle at the store due to the smell of the cleaners.  Do you know what I’m talking about?  The smell that bites your nose when you enter the store. That should make us stop & think about the safety of those cleaners.  They are in sealed containers & we still smell them!  Hum...something to think about.

I started checking some of the ingredients & there were some really bad side effects with many of the cleaners we commonly use & think they are safe.

No wonder those other brands affected me physically, mentally, & emotionally.
I had terrible headaches, chest pains, my heart would race, I couldn't breathe, and I couldn't think right or concentrate.  I became angry, nervous or would just start to cry for no reason depending on the chemical.

It finally hit me one day when I was helping our daughter set up her science fair project at school.  We walked through the cafeteria & the ladies were cleaning the lunch tables with bleach.  One walk through was all it took!  In just a few minutes my personally changed & I was sick.  My daughter couldn't believe what she was seeing.

Later that day as I was thinking about what had happened it dawned on me I had been in contact with the bleach.  That was the only difference.  I thought back to the many times I had gotten sick and cleaning products almost always were the factor.  I wondered how many kids were affected by the same thing at school.

Think about all the kids with behavior & learning problems.
What about the increase in asthma & respiratory aliments.
Could there be a link to illness & the chemicals we use?

Could it be that the cleaning products you are using are making you sick?

After this happened to me I wanted to make sure I didn’t do anything to make my home unhealthy for my family or anyone who came to my house.

So I began my search for safe nontoxic cleaning products.  After much research I found my answer.  Stay tunned for my findings.
